Where Is Brooklyn Heights?

Brooklyn Heights is located across the East River from Lower Manhattan anchored by the Brooklyn Bridge.

The apartments are situated on two separate floors of a 19th century Brooklyn Heights townhouse.

Walk five minutes to the Borough Hall subway station; from there Wall Street is 5 minutes and Grand Central is 20 minutes via express train.

Brooklyn Height’s’s convenient location as well as its historic charm make the  area a favorite of discerning New Yorkers.

Why Brooklyn Heights

Often visitors to New York City experience only the rather hectic pace of Manhattan.  The old saw about New York was “nice place to visit but I wouldn’t want to live there”

Visitors often easily miss experiencing what makes New York so attractive to its residents, and most New Yorkers wouldn’t live anywhere else.

What binds New Yorkers to the City is its individual neighborhoods; and the sense of place and belonging that neighborhoods provide.

Brooklyn Heights is one of New York CIty’s most pleasant and physically attractive neighborhoods. It is totally walkable; all of life’s necessities are an easy walk away as is every transit line. Extending

Along the Brooklyn Heights waterfront is Brooklyn Bridge Park, created in 2010 on the site of former shipping piers. This wonderful park stretches from the southern border of Brooklyn Heights, under the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges, to the very upscale Dumbo neighborhood of converted loft buildings and new built towers.

Brooklyn Heights has always been a pleasant neighborhood, from its earliest days as the City’s first suburb in the 1830s. The townhouses built in Brooklyn Heights in the 19th century were originally the substantial homes of New York merchants from the very beginning. These homes have been lovingly maintained and restored by the residents such that even today the character of the streets and the houses have changed little from those early days.

The neighborhood is cherished by its residents and presents a way of life all to rare in today’s automobile dependent environment.

European visitors especially enjoy the area as it is similar to their own, often walkable, cities and towns where a car is not needed (or even wanted for daily life).

Many Advantages of a Fully Furnished Apartment

Residing in one of our furnished apartment you’ll live like a local, a completely different experience than found in a Manhattan or Brooklyn hotel. You’ll shop the local stores, of which there are many, eat in the local restaurants, and enjoy perusing the local shops and strolling in the numerous nearby parks. Just walking the historic streets is fascinating especially with a good guide book. Clay Lancaster’s “Old Brooklyn Heights: New York’s First Suburb” certainly ranks among the best.

One of the many advantages of a furnished apartment is having a kitchen. Although there are countless nearby restaurants of all sorts, having the ability to prepare something at home is a valued perk for the temporary resident. As one past guest put it; its not the $400 per night at the (chain hotel) that bothered me, its was the $40.  they charged for the bowl of oatmeal.

Included in the cost of our furnished rental apartments is weekly cleaning and fresh bed linens and bath towels.

Work From Home WiFi

The apartments are equipped with a mesh WiFi providing greater than 100 mbps download speed; sufficient bandwidth to accomodated several video conferences concurrently.

Many previous guests have enjoyed working from home in our furnished apartments.

Each apartment contains a desk as well as other comfortable workspaces. Many people imagine New York apartments to be noisy; the quite atmosphere has surprised many previous guests who whave noted this in their reviews.

Convenient Brooklyn Heights Location

The townhouse is located on Schermerhorn Street between Court and Clinton Streets in Brooklyn Heights.

The Borough Hall subway station (lines 2,3 4,6 and R) is a five minute walk. Travel one stop from Borough Hall to Wall Street in five minutes; eighteen minutes to Grand Central Terminal.

The Jay Street station (A, C, F lines) is a nine minute walk. The “A” train connects to JFK airport in about 50 minutes during peak hours.

The major commercial streets are Atlantic Avenue and Court Street nearby as well as Montague Street. location of many restaurants, gracery stores and businesses of every sort.

Brooklyn Bridge Park, with its stunning waterfront views, is a short walk away.

The skyline photo at the top of this page was taken from the nearby Brooklyn Heights Promenade, famous for it spectacular unobtructed view of New York harbor with the Statue of Liberty and the entire Manhattan skyline; certainly a memorable view, especially in the early evening with the sun setting in the distance.

Brooklyn Heights; A remnant of old New York

The townhouse is located on a street that is not a throughfare, there is very little traffic on the street except for service vehicles and people looking for metered parking spaces. There would be little reason for anyone to drive on the street except for these reasons. The rear on the house faces the gardens of similar 19th century vintage residential townhouses and is thus very quiet. The parallel streets on either side of Schermerhorn are likewise very low traffic streets.  The result is an island of calm in a location two blocks from all sorts of commercial activity and convenience; closeby yet isolated from the commotion.

Safe and Secure Neighborhood

New York has an unwarranted reputation for having a high crime rate. This is actually very far from the truth. Surely part of this false image comes from the fact that many completely fictional movies and TV shows are filmed (or set) in New York. Police procedurals might be entertaining television fare but they don’t reflect ordinary everyday life.

In actuality New York City is the 5th safest city in the US, according to a Forbes Magazine 2023 report. Take a look at the statistics here.

And Brooklyn Heights is a very safe neighborhood in this safe city with every urban amenity imagable. For this reason Brooklyn Heights and adjoining neighborhoods are prized by New Yorkers for their excellent quality of life.

Traveling To And From Airport
JFK Airport

JFK airport is accessable in about 50 minutes via the “A” train from Jay Street station to the Howard Beach station (on the Far Rockway branch, not the Lefferts branch). From Howard Beach station transfer to the Airtrain which connects the subway to the airport terminals. The fare is $11.15 ($2.75 for the subway and $8.75 separate fare for the Airtrain).

LaGuardia Airport (LGA)

LaGuardia Airport (LGA) is the one New York airport not well served by public transit; its a 25 minute car ride costing about $50.

It is possible to reach LaGuardia via public transit requiring a transfer from the subway to a bus at the Jackson Heights-Roosevelt Avenue station.

Newark Airport (EWR)

From Newark Airport (EWR) the easiest public transit route is via NJ Transit to Manhattan’s Penn Station (not to be confused with Penn Station in Newark) then take the 2 or 3 subway to Borough Hall. ALternativly one may take the airport bus to Port Authority Bus Station in Manhattan and then the A or C train to Jay Street Station or the 2 or 3 thain to Borough Hall. The trip via the A train requires a slighty longer walk when arriving in Brooklyn. The route via the 2 or 3 subway requires a longer walk at the bus station.
